Just as you check the labels of the foods you eat, you should do the same for any products you use.
Dial A Smile asks: Do you know what’s in your home teeth whitening products? If you’re using Whitening Lightning products like Dial A Smile and Zero White teeth whitening system, you can rest easy. There are no harmful chemicals or poisons you might find in other formulas.
Years ago, home teeth whitening wasn’t something people did as often and as easily as they do today. They were usually in a controlled environment such as the dentist’s office. Today people whiten teeth at home. Whitening Lightning, a Hollywood favorite, has been servicing the public since 2010.
As products became increasingly more available and an individual’s self-esteem became tied to their appearance, the desire to whiten teeth has risen significantly.
Today, there are myriad products available that claim to provide you with a gleaming, pearly smile you can be proud of. Unfortunately, many of them also contain ingredients you should stay away from. Here are a few of the potentially harmful ingredients found in some over-the-counter teeth whitening systems.
Teeth Whitening Ingredients that Might Be Dangerous
Carbamide peroxide is a common ingredient found in SOME home teeth whitening products. You’ll never find it in Whitening Lightning products. Our products are safe to use, and Zero White is actually all natural, made of a botanical mixture of ingredients. It’s great for sensitive teeth, providing a pain-free experience.
There are other ingredients to watch out for. Here are a few:
Also known as silica, silicon dioxide is commonly found in toothpaste meant to whiten your teeth. You can also find it in sandstone, quartz, and UNEXPECTEDLY, meat from a popular fast food taco restaurant. Yuck! Silica is a form of sand, and its small, granular shape has been known to scratch and ruin tooth enamel.
This is a solvent that, like silicon dioxide, is also a common ingredient in whitening toothpaste. It’s also used as anti-freeze, brake fluid and a de-icer used by airlines. While small amounts of propylene glycol are not harmful, prolonged exposure can be dangerous.
Sodium Lauryl Sulfate – SLS is lauded for its ability to easily create
SLS is lauded for its ability to easily create foam, which makes it a prime ingredient in some shampoos, soaps, and toothpaste. Unfortunately, studies have shown that it also causes damage to the inside of your mouth which can result in small sores.
A powerful corrosive, Sodium Hydroxide is often used in industrial cleaning agents and whitening toothpaste. It’s known to cause chemical burns in the mouth as well as gastrointestinal distress.
Polyethylene is an effective polisher, and often included in whitening toothpaste. Unfortunately, studies have shown that contact with broken skin can lead to toxicity (poisoning), so you may want to steer clear of putting anything containing polyethylene in your mouth.
